Metaphysically, the colour Clear (think Diamonds or Quartz Crystal) is associated with the following:- “The Light”, Contains whole spectrum of colours, The Light force made manifest in the world, The positive aspects of all colours, Karmic Absolution, Light of Ascension, Transparency and reflection, Surrender – letting go of our true colours to return to the light, Simplicity, Equilibrium, Idealistic, Clarity, Bringing the Light to anything unresolved, Purity, Bringing light to all energy centers, Able to be anything, They understand everybody (but not everybody understands them), The opportunity to clear emotions, Shining the light on the subject, The opportunity to become clear about unconscious beliefs , Can be very cut and dried - Makes things clear to others The lessonThey understand everybody – but not everyone understands them, The need to clear emotions, Frozen feelings, Mirroring what you see in others – is a fault in yourself, Feel lost and unsure of own identity, Emptiness, Looking for fulfillment, The well of unshed tears, The pearl of great price born in the oyster bed of great suffering, The colours have been washed from my life through unshed tears, The negative aspect of all colours, Intensification of all emotions, Rage, Tears, Intense suffering, Emptiness , Nothing to lose, Someone who wishes to remain hidden – reflecting others rather than showing themselves, This being has lived through much The Need - is to be seenAffirmation - my way is clear Chakra - Connection to Spirit, Ethereal Body Physical - Sinus (unshed tears), Lymphatic system, Cells, Bones/teeth, White blood cells and Spinal fluid. Metaphysical Lore suggests Quartz Crystal (Clear, not Coloured) is a power stone that harmonizes and balances. That it enhances energy and thoughts, and purifies the spiritual, mental, and physical. It is said to be a powerfully protective stone, bringing the purified energy in. Historically this crystal has been used to counter black magic, to perform diagnostic healing, and to communicate with spirits and other worlds. Clear quartz, as opposed to coloured quartz, is associated with the crown chakra, but also works well on all chakras. Clear Quartz may benefit all star signs. Copper jewelelry has been worn by some of the oldest civilizations on record - it is said a pendant was uncovered in the Middle East dating back to 8700 B.C. As with all copper, natural antiquing may occur over time. This changing patina increases the allure. The following pieces are some of my designs that use copper. COPPER FALLS Necklace A small Agate focal, Stick Pearls and Czech pressed and faceted glass are highlighted with copper chain, connectors and beads. Swarovski Pearls in chocolate and Greens add another dimension to the design and bring out the colours in the Czech glass. Strand length is approx 88.5cm for shortest and 106cm for longest. Claspless BE HAPPY Bracelet Celebrate, laugh, give, dance, wishes and happy are written on the resin charms. Copper chain, wire wrapped links and a toggle clasp make up this approx 17cm long fun bracelet. LISA Necklace This versatile necklace can be dressed up or down depending on your needs. 2 strands of linked copper chain drape from hammered oval links. Each strand is highlighted with flat stamped diamond shaped beads. The necklace is finished with a strand of copper belcher chain and a lobster clasp. These strands measure approx 51.5cm - 55cm. LOGAN Bracelet Beautiful transparent green glass cover a core of multi-coloured foil. These beads are highlighted with open copper basket style beadcaps and separated by copper flower shaped discs. The bracelet is finished with a leaf toggle clasp and is approx 20.5cm long CASSEY Necklace 1.0mm to 2.3mm dyed Magnesite wheels are wrapped with copper wire and dangle from copper chain. Necklace length is approx 49cm up to 52.5 with the extension chain. Longest dangle is approx 4.75cm long This piece has lots of movement and texture. ACANTHA Necklace Unakite chips are highlighted with raw copper spacers. This strand is attached to the 3 carved bone linked elephant chain by copper wire wrapped loops. The colours of the Unakite pick up the etched blanket design on the back of each elephant, while the copper colour echoes the deep salmon in the gemstones. Total length is approx 57cm and is finished with a magnetic clasp. Clasp and findings are copper. Tomorrow, Sunday 6th May, I will be at the Canning Bridge Art Markets, Kishorn Road, Applecross from 9am to 3pm. You can find me in Stall No 13. This is a great opportunity to get something special for Mothers Day as there is a wide range of locally handcrafted wares available from the stallholders. Bring a brolly as the forcast is for possible showers. I offer free giftwrapping on all purchases from my stall and gift boxes and cards are available for purchase. Look forward to seeing you there. Remember these markets are on the first Sunday of every month, so mark them in your diary. Regards Maxine

I have finally had time to write the descriptions, price and load these designs onto the website. Sometimes this part of the process takes longer than designing and making the actual piece..... ADELLAssorted white fibres, 4mm Opalite rounds and AB Opal Matt Czech fire-polished glass beads weave through 2 x approx 30mm donuts (Opalite / Sea Opal) and 1 x approx 25mm Quartz donut. 2 x 8mm very pale Rose Quartz faceted rounds gather the beaded strands just prior to the beadcones. The back of the necklace is made of a single strand of Opalite beads using 6mm, 4mm and 2mm Czech beads as highlights and is finished with a pearl enhanced round box clasp. Findings including crimp covers, wire guardians and clasp are silver-plated. Approx 43cm long. JILL Seamless silver foil-lined Aqua glass links totalling approx 11.5 x 3cm are supported by 5 x approx 2mm silver foil-lined glass puffed discs. Three of these beads are highlighted by 5 x 8mm round Turquoise Blue Czech glass beads and silver scalloped beadcaps. Hammered chain joins all components of the design together and are wire-wrapped onto the glass links. BERNICE 3 strands of tiny 2mm assorted Semi Precious Gemstones are highlighted by approx 3mm Turquoise Howlite round beads and gold-plated floral connectors and findings. Total length is approx 19.5cm and is finished with a parrot clasp. KARINA 4 x Aqua blue and 3 x Clear 30x17mm Marquise cut crystals are separated by clear crystal bicones. The 3 clear Marquise drops are wire wrapped and highlighted with Swarovski crystals in 3mm round faceted Aquamarine, 3mm faceted round Indicolite and 4mm faceted bicone Aqua AB. These same beads are scattered around the necklace and the design is finished with a puffed square box clasp. This clasp features a safety latch. The total length is approx 41cm and findings including crimp covers, wire guardians and jumprings are silver-plated. These are just some of the new designs I listed last night on my Store. The next one will be on the 6th May, 2012, the week before Mothers Day, so it is a great opportunity to visit and pick up something different for the special person in your life. Regards Maxine

Lampworking is an ancient art form that is growing in popularity. Similar to glass-blowing artists, lampwork artisans create glass beads using fire and tools. These vibrant lampworked glass beads show off intriguing patterns and colours. I have recently received an order from one of my suppliers which includes some wonderful lampworked glass beads that I will be incorporating into my upcoming designs. These pictures show some of the beads included in that order. The white oval bead above is the most delightful translucent colour with a pattern that reminds me of a peacock feather. The brown striped beads and the cream & black beads with red swirls are opaque. The pattern on the blue bead offers so many design opportunities and colour matching choices. The same applies to this Topaz and teal bead. It is transparent with an opaque pattern. I just love it. It is even better in real life than I imagined it to be when I ordered it. Due to their handcrafted nature, no two beads are exactly alike, which suits me just fine as none of my designs are the same. I cant wait to start using these beads and showing you the designs I come up with. This event runs from 10am to 4pm at the Corner of Riley and High Roads in Riverton. It is just opposite the Riverton Forum Shopping Centre. There is plenty of parking and lots of interesting stalls for the whole family. Find me in Stall 2. Remember Mothers Day is only a couple of weeks away so call in and find something unique, local and handcrafted for that special person in your life. Regards Maxine

I hope you have all had a wonderful Easter. We had our son, partner and children here for dinner on Good Friday and then the Grandkids stayed over for the night and went home around 10.30 on Saturday. As Barney has worked 12 hour shifts on the wharf all weekend, (and I dont have a car at present) I have had plenty of time to myself to do "my things". The evenings and mornings have been delightful and I have had a couple of lovely walks. Got some baking done and the freezer is full of meals for those nights I just dont have the time (or inclination) to do any cooking. And most importantly - I have had time to work on some new designs. These individually handmade porcelain hearts are made in Australia by Robyn Allen Waters and I purchased them in Wollongong when we were over East last year. Silver butterflies and findings are added to one set while the other has Peridot Swarovski crystals and gold findings. Although the hearts are quite large, they are very light. I have paired this set of 3 carved linked elephants with raw copper wire and findings and Unakite gemstone chips. The stone picks up the colours of the blankets on the back of each elephant and the copper echoes the deep salmon colour within the chips. This design is finished with a magnetic clasp. 3 x faceted cubes are separated by brass spacers and highlighted with gemstone discs and rounds from which 3 strands of Moonstone and other assorted gemstone chips fall. On the other side these strands weave through shield shaped gemstones highlighted with brass beads and are caught into one strand again at a junction of 3 brass tyre shaped spacer beads. This design is claspless. These are some of my recent designs. Now I just have to write up their full descriptions, price them and list them on the website. They can be jobs for another day as I have a couple more items to finish before I tidy up the studio tonight. To see these and other great designs, visit me at the following events or contact me to arrange an alternative appointment. Canning Arts Group 72 Riley Road (Cnr High Rd), Riverton WA 6148 Opposite the Riverton Forum Shopping Centre For further information please contact the group at Both of these events are just before MOTHER'S DAY so they would be great opportunities to get that special person in your life something wonderful, unique and handcrafted in Western Australian by one of the various stall holders. If you are purchasing something from my website for Mother's Day, please allow time for postage as there will be the Anzac Day Public Holiday before then. Regards Maxine

There was a slight drizzle early on & a little shower, but then the day, although overcast was a beautiful day for the monthly Canning Bridge Arts Markets. The Canning Bridge Arts Markets are held on the first Sunday of the month at Kishorn Road between Moreau Mews and First Avenue in Applecross, between 9am and 3pm. Today was only the second month of these delightful markets and of course the numbers of visitors are still building, but today we had repeat visitors from last month and many who had heard of us from visitors to the last months markets. As word of mouth is generally the best advertising, I am expecting these markets to just keep getting bigger and better. Musicians and dancers are booked to entertain the crowds at the May 6th markets and as these are the week before Mothers Day, it would be a great chance to visit, present her with a brilliant gift from one of the various stallholders and show your support for local and handcrafted wares. Two of my favourite pieces found new homes today. To me they represented time - one the past and the other looking into the future. The natural Amber drop earrings have wonderful inclusions within them. Captured images of time past. Best Wishes Maxine

For the March 10th & 11th, 2012, I will donate two of the designs from my Metaphysical range. Analisa - Soft pink Milky glass 6mm rounds form the pattern on both the Rose Quartz and crystal strands. The Rose Quartz strand includes silver bead caps. Both strands merge into one at the back of the design which includes flower spacers, 10mm clear AB bicones with Bali Silver beadcaps and round pink milky glass and silver beads. Strands measure between approx 53cm and 58.5cm and is finished with an embossed silver plated round box clasp. Woody - A Wood Jasper donut is added to a freeform peyote stitched necklace. Seedbeads in the peyote stitch include hex cut, cubes, silver-lined, clear colour lined, AB finished, translucent, transparent and matt finished. The colours consist of basically green and topaz tones with a sprinkling of gold, clear, grey and red to add depth to the piece. Part of this unusual design is the peyote completely encases one side of the donut (keeping it in place on the necklace), but the other side is not attached, simply threaded though – as per the close-up photos. It can be worn either way.
The necklace has a centre core of tiger-tail wire for added strength. The beads are then stitched onto and around the wire to form the freeform design. It is finished off with a bronze clasp and extension chain and measures approx 45.5 plus the extension chain and pendant. Remember for your chance to win these and other beautiful items donated by other stall-holders, you need to visit us at the Perth Waldorf School, 14 Gwilliam Drive, Bibra Lake (next to Adventure World).

Today I have been playing with some of the chain I have in my stash. While experimenting with different grouping and patterns etc, I came up with this mixed metal design. The gold coloured rolo chain in the centre adds some weight to the strands and creates a nice drape. The small silver plated leaves on that section of chain add loads of movement and a bit of bulk to the design. The brass chain and connectors add a depth of colour to the design and bring it all together. The gold plated neckchain adds contrast to the heavier gold section in the front and is finished with a gold plated lobster clasp and a small gold plated drop and length is adjustable. I have just completed this piece and have not had time to price it yet. Look out for its listing on the website shortly. If you cant wait to make it your own then contact me.

With tonight seeing the end of 2011, it is time to reassess our desires and refocus on our dreams. It is a time of celebration, of a new beginning and it offers us much, but to achieve we need to have clear and realistic goals, achievable timeframes and know what the rewards for our effort will be. My personal goal is to get fitter & healthier. If this also means losing weight then bring it on. I have a cross-trainer (elliptical machine) that I haven’t used consistently for a while. My aim is to use it each morning for 20 mins at least and slowly but consistently increase either the time or the distance. Once I get into the swing of things (I am thinking a couple of weeks) I will add some weight resistance to my programme, to speed up weight loss and tone up. I am not going to tell you what my current weight is, but I will let you know how things are going and what improvements to my fitness I have achieved. My business goal is to develop a business plan and work to it. I would like to at least double my business exposure this year by participating in more Artisan Markets and competing in state, national and international competitions. I will also send items to several of the magazines I read, both as pictures for “readers galleries” and instructions on how to make some of my designs. If you are able to help with suggestions for competitions to enter, or magazines to get published in, it would be greatly appreciated. It is wonderful to be able to wish you all a Happy New Year. I hope you and your loved ones stay safe and that the coming year will be one full of Love, Joy and Success. I also wish you good luck in the 31 Million Lotto draw!! Best Wishes Maxine

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and happy Christmas and a coming New Year full of Love, Joy & Success in all your endeavours. Hopefully you, like I, have nearly finished all the baking, tidying and wrapping for the next couple of big days of fun, family, friends and feasting. 10 of us are spending Christmas Day with friends and are each taking some items of the luncheon to share and enjoy aboard their boat whilst cruising the Swan River. Should be a relaxing and fun-filled day for us all. I have cooked the turkey (cranberry & pistachio stuffing) and will make a garden salad tomorrow morning. These will be added to the ham, prawns, potato salad, bean salad etc and finished off with pavlova and tiramisu, (and a couple of drinks....). Boxing Day will see most of my family here for the afternoon and Dinner. I have made a plum and wholegrain mustard glazed ham which looks and smells great (alright I tasted a little bit that “dropped” off and it tastes good to). We will light the BBQ up for dinner and do garlic banana prawns, satay chicken kebabs, lentil patties and falafels. I will make another garden salad with oven roasted tomatoes, avocado, buffalo cheese, our own eggs, etc and a potato au gratin. Barney will do his famous BBQ potatoes served with sour cream and sweet chilli sauce. These will be served with a range of breads, buns and wraps. Dessert is a choice of steamed fruit puddings and brandy custard or a sponge fruit flan and cream. If anyone should manage to still be hungry there is an assortment of cheeses, fruits, nuts and apricot nibbles (instead of rum balls). For the kids (and kids at heart) I have made some Rudolf (or Rudette)the Reindeer cupcakes (pictured)which look cute and hopefully will last until Monday.... If my planning is correct, we shouldn’t have too many leftovers. I have done a range of things, but not too many of each so everyone can have a taste, but not overeat as is usual at this time of year. The exception will be the ham, which will please Barney as it is one of his favourite things and he will nibble on it for the next week or so and then I will freeze the leftovers and bones to make pea and ham soup in the cooler months. Ok, I’ve had a break, just have the floors to do and that’s it – finished!! Hope you are all able to relax and enjoy the festive season with loved ones. Merry Christmas! Maxine xxx

will be held over the weekend of 10th & 11th March, 2012 Note this weekend into your diary and come down to enjoy the displays, demonstrations, workshops, music and community spirit. I will post more information closer to the time. If you make hand-crafted items, are a musician, or offer healing or meditation and would like to join this not-for-profit group, or be part of this or future events, phone Nis on 0400815689 or Danica on 0422 986 129 At present the aim is for a larger community event once a year to encourage the community to become involved with arts & crafts and the community spirit itself and a few smaller (by invitation only) events at the Pulse Art Studio in Spearwood. The following pictures are from the last private event at the Pulse Art Studio in November 2011. There were hands-on demonstrations and workshops, musicians, community mural painting, meditation and healing offered over both days of the weekend.

I was at the Reconnecting Arts & Community Event and wasn't able to get to the meeting to collect my bear, so he arrived in the post a few days later. This little "beanie bear" was a little thin when he arrived, so my first mission was to put him on a better diet and fatten him up a bit. Then I had to decide how to decorate him. As a beader (and as this was a Bead Guild Challenge) my first instinct was to bead him from head to toe, but then (in my over-imaginative mind), he would have been saved brom being butchered or milked for bile only to send him to the streets as a tortured Dancing Bear. This would not do! Then I thought if I had been a bear .... who had been locked in a cage or tied to a rope, what would I want to do if I was free..... ROMP IN THE WILD!!!! So that is what happened. My bear has been embroidered with a vine which has wrapped around him as he has rolled on the forrest floor and he has a bunch of blossoms on his bottom where he has sat in the meadow and wondered at the wildflowers and all the beauties of nature which he never envisaged during the terror and torment of his previous life. If you would like to help the Free the Bears Fund, all donations are used 100% towards the bears.

Over the weekend of November 5th & 6th the Reconnecting Arts & Community Group held an Art Market and Open Day at the Pulse Art Studio in Spearwood. We had a shaky start with some last minute hiccups with the Health Department, but with the support of Councillors and the Mayor we continued, with some changes and made it a private event - by invitation only. Invites went out via word of mouth, email, facebook etc. Although the Saturday was quite wet, we had many brave souls come to try out the workshops and participate in the event. Sunday, although a little damp, was in general a much nicer day and again people came to participate in the demonstrations, workshops, to paint on the community mural, listen to the music, meditate, have a blessing or healing and just join in with the positive feel of this community minded event and meet the artists, musicians, facilitators and other members of their neighbourhood. The next event is planned for March, 2012. At this stage it will be held at the Waldorf School in Gwilliam Street, Bibra Lake.

Come and join in the fun, participate in some hands-on workshops, watch demonstrations by local artisans and meet your community neighbours. I will have a stall over the weekend, so it is a great chance for you to see my designs "in the flesh", and try them on. I will be demonstrating how to wire-wrap glass beads into beautiful butterflies. These can then be used as brooches, suncatchers, ornaments and make wonderful and inexpensive gifts. Other artisans will demonstrate woodwork, ceramics, stonecarving, painting, textile dyeing and resin rings. Music, dance and healing practitioners will all be in attendance over the weekend. I look forward to seeing you sometime over the weekend. Love Maxine

This Interactive Art Event and Community Markets held by the Reconnecting Arts & Community group will have market stalls, musicians, interactive workshops and demonstrations over both days of the weekend of the 5th and 6th November, 2011. As I will be away for nearly 3 of these weeks, I have been busy making some new designs. Some of which I have just loaded onto the website, but others will be launched at the markets. MARKET SPECIALS - I will have some earrings on special for the markets. These are mostly Indian glass beads (no plastic beads) with an assortment of findings (gold and silver)and styles that I have made for the event. I will price them at $5.00 each, 3 pair for $13.50 (approx 10% saving) or 5 pair for $20.00 (approx 20% saving). These SPECIAL earrings are not available on the website and can only be purchased at the markets at this stage. As the markets will be held not long before the break-up of school and then Christmas isnt far behind, I will also be offering a range of bookmarks in three styles and some keyrings. Just perfect for a teachers gift or to add to someone specials Christmas gift. These are very reasonable priced at between $5.00 and $20.00. Many of these BOOKMARKS are available online, but the KEYRINGS will be a Market special only. Why not come, experience and participate in this community building event. Looking forward to seeing you all there. Love and Best wishes Maxine

I designed this set as part of the “Out on the Town” Bead Guild of WA bead challenge. The Guild supplied the basic kit consisting of Czech M&M’s and Atlas beads, glass, filigree and stardust rounds, Japanese Miyuki cube beads and seedbeads. All beads in the kit are available from the Bead Company in Osborne Park. I purchased extra stardust rounds, Miyuki cubes and silver lined clear glass seedbeads. I had the Rose Montées from a previous design. I am quite pleased with the outcome as the piece came out very close to my sketching with only a few minor changes made during the process. I kept the earrings very simple as the neckpiece, although only in black and silver, is quite busy with the different shapes and textures. One of the bracelets is formed of spiraling silver-lined clear and black seedbeads, while the other uses the Japanese Miyuki cubes as the base and is embellished with different sized silver lined clear glass seedbeads. Both bracelets are finished with smooth silver-plated toggle clasps while the neckpiece has a strong magnetic clasp for easy wear. Jean won the competition with a black filigree headband which she had embellished with components made from the beads in the kit. The pieces entered for judging were of a high standard, but the numbers were low, which was disappointing as the Guild had extended the due date by a month as several members had indicated they needed more time and then didn’t enter. I am now designing and making items for the Annual Bead Guild of WA Competition which this year, for the first time, will be judged by photos of the items instead of in “real” life. Click here to see my winning design from last year.

These are some of the Recycled & Retro pieces I have been given or found recently. Today I have been cleaning them and dislodging any loose stones and crystals etc. ready for fixing or remodelling. Two of the pieces are being fixed for a lovely regular customer. Most of the components had some lost stones or findings before I started cleaning, but after washing and brushing, many more of the crystals fell out of their settings and the painted coatings have come away from the metal. A few of the filigree stampings are now completely (or nearly) void of crystals. I will use them as blanks and not worry about resetting their original "stones". A couple pieces are quite brittle so I am going to butcher them and use their crystals in other settings. These brooches, buckles, pendants, necklaces and other components can be remodelled or mended and provide many more wonderful years of joy to their now wearer while still retaining their history. I will list them in the Recycled & Retro section of my website, but if there is a piece you see that you would like me to remodel in a certain way for you, please don't hesitate to contact me and arrange to commission an item. With Love MaxineFaye

While the Ogalala Lace stitch I learnt at a recent workshop looks pretty, it probably isnt a stitch that I would use much in my designs. While at the workshop though I got inspiration for the piece I have called Belinda. When I folded the "lace" onto itself, it formed these lovely components. I simplified the stitch, inserted the centre bead to form these flowers and joined the components together with Chinese crystals to form this brilliant choker style necklace. Babette was another design influenced by the Ogalala Lace stitch. This asymmetrical piece of netting is made with the same count stitch on each section, but the use of various size and shaped beads it twists similar to the Ogalala Lace stitch. The design is random to represent an old torn fishing net. Gold plated dolphin and coin charms at the back of the netting suggest the battle between ecology and economy in managing our oceans. I designed this piece for the Bead Guild of WA's "Under the Sea" beading challenge. I drilled through 41 x 17x20mm sections of shell (most are oval, though a few are freeform) then threaded each onto a headpin, added a Czech firepolished crystal and wrapped them onto 3 strands of crocheted multicoloured fibre yarn which bring together all the shades of a coral reef. I hand-forged 2 x gold plated "S" clasps which are connected with a jumpring to finish off this design which features an approx 20x30mm freeform teardrop shaped shell pendant.

I have taken the following excerpt from that page. Mission - The overall intention is to bridge the gap between ourselves and our community, getting to know our neighbours, and build better dialog and better relationships with one another.
Through getting involved in the arts, people may also be inspired to pursue other artistic endeavours, and though this foster better communication and build positive relationships. Description - This working group was created to bring people together to reconnect with creativity, the arts and our community.
In order to do this our group organises ‘Community Art Markets’ where we invite local artists, musicians and crafts people to share their own work with others through stalls, a small exhibition and most importantly through short interactive workshops and demonstrations available to the public. Our goal is to bring something new to the usual ‘markets’ by encouraging a peaceful environment and homely feel, as well as sustainable community space where people can come, experience and participate. To read Nis's vision statement, for further information or to participate in this exciting concept, please follow the link or contact Danica.

Actually, I have been listing some of my new earring designs on my other online stores today. Before I had my own website, I use to list on eBay. This was reasonably successful, but I had to compete against lots of mass produced items and it got more and more costly to insert items on that site. Then someone told me about Etsy. I had a look and loved the fact that it was all handmade items (not only jewellery, but bags, clothes, hats, cards - everything you could think of, and joined up there and then. One day on the Australian Beaders Forum, I saw something about Made-it and checked that out also. It too was a great Australian site for handcrafted products and I joined them as well. They have everything from dolls and toys, to cloths, pet products and edible items and everything in-between. They also have a sister site - Craftumi where you can buy craft supplies. Then a while ago, I received an email from one of the Bead Guild members advising of a new site for handcrafted and ethical products being set up in Australia. This was called Ethikl. I messaged them and was soon a member of that site too. It has a different approach to just handmade, with products having to meet the Ethikl | Eco, Upcycled , Fair Trade Shopping policies. I havent listed on any of these stores lately, as I have been developing my own site, but today I thought that I had too many pairs of earrings to list at one store, so will be adding a few to all my sites over the next few days. This way I wont overload the viewer, and hopefully I will be able to cross promote each store via the other stores. When you are searching for that something special for a gift, remember to look at the artisan stores on these sites. There are some wonderfully creative people in the world. A handcrafted gift is so much more interesting that one of the mass produced items found in the department stores. If you make (or know anyone who makes) handcrafted items, please let them know of these alternative sites to eBay. I hope you have a wonderful time looking at each of these wonderful online marketplaces and come away with something truly original and unique. Love

Pulse Art Studio Community Art Markets This is a piece taken from this week’s local newspaper on the Pulse Art Studio Community Markets that were held last weekend in Spearwood. The photo of me isn’t great (a bit bright) but it was good to get a mention, not just for myself, but great for the Markets. Nis and Danica are planning the next one for the end of October/beginning of November, so if you would like to be involved - as a stall holder or a visitor, remember to keep an eye out for details as that time gets closer. Bead Guild of WA "Summer" 2011 Bead Challenge I have also taken an excerpt out of the Bead Guild of WA's Feb/March newsletter showing some of the other entries in their "Summer" bead challenge. Click on the following PDF to see the different ways each of the bead artists used the items supplied in the kit. There were more entries than shown here and hopefully they will soon be able to view on the Bead Guild of WA website. Love and Best wishes Maxine

This weekend's markets were a success. I wasn't able to make Saturday, but although it was very hot, there was reports of a good turn out with members of the local Council visiting and making some purchases. The Council also discussed the option of a possible grant for future Community Markets. Wonderful!! Sunday started out hot and muggy, but just as the heat was getting a bit much, a lovely little breeze came in and it turned out to be a delightful afternoon under the trees. Click on the above picture to see more photos of the markets. I had set up my stall in the front yard. My necklaces I left in their storage packets and hung them from the clothesline. They looked good and were easy for people to see. I set my earring and bracelet display up under a lovely gum tree near the clothesline and the other side of the front path I put my display table. I popped my chair under a pine tree and once the breeze came in I was quite happy sitting there beading or wondering around chatting to visitors and other stall holders. No great crowd showed up, but a steady trickle of people came and went all day. Some bought, some participated in the workshops and others came for healing sessions or to eat some of the wonderful food that was available. Most were delightful and the overall energy at the studio was great. Nis and Danica are planning the next market for October/November so make a note in your diary and drop down for some great Christmas gift ideas, or just to enjoy the atmosphere of the Community Art Markets at the Pulse Art Studio.

This week I have been working on two totally different pieces. One is made of glass in a "fan" style and is crisp and clean in design, while the other is a beaded and formed fabric & lace "bib" style necklace using lots of recycled & vintage materials and beads. I enjoy working with different mediums and seeing where the creative process takes me. Sometimes I have a definite design that I wish to create while at other times while I may start out with a general idea of what I want to produce, the process seems to have a life of it's own and anything can end up happening. Click here to see more of my current designs. Best wishes Maxine ________________________________________________________________________ Adalia A recycled vintage crochet doily is backed with beading foundation to give this design structure and then lined once the stitching was completed. Cream and gold ribbon flowers in satin and organza decorate the base doily and are highlighted by beads and flower shaped, lustred buttons. A white frayed ribbon flower adds contrast. Recycled vintage glass pearls in white, green, mauve and cream, lined seedbeads, gold coloured rounds and small beadcaps (which have been flattened to form a flower shape) are joined with new gold coloured freshwater pearls, small white seedbeads and gold plated approx 9x11mm linked chain. The doily is finished will a recycled satin fringe of approx 13cm long. Drops of glass pearls hang from the lower section of the doily with some dangling amongst the fringe. The widest section of the "bib" is approx 25.5 cm and it is approx 13.5 deep (not including the fringe). The chain is finished with glass pearl on one end and a small toggle pin on the other. This togglr pin can be threaded through any of the links in the chain to give a range of lengths. ________________________________________________________________________ Adele 7 faceted trapezoid shaped 14-17x22 clear glass beads are separated by 6mm opaque black faceted glass to form the central fan of this necklace. Black opaque seedbeads attach the central design to the silver plated screw clasp. Length is approx 48.5cm

My Beach Bag was chosen as joint winner in the "Summer" challenge. Yayy!! Such a buzz to be judged by peers. Today was the first Bead Guild meeting for 2011 and it was nice to catch up with other members after a couple of months off due to the Christmas break. It was also great to see the variety of items and techniques used in the "Challenge". The designs included necklaces, bracelets, a beaded mini bikini & beach towel scene through to my beaded and embroided beach bag. It was a delight to share the win with Jean. She is such a talented and lovely lady who incorporated beaded beads she had created from the kit into her necklace. Pictures of all the entries will be posted to the Bead Guild's site in the near future, so remember to check them all out. Remember the Bead Guild is open to all beaders and new members are always welcome. Come for a cuppa and have a chat with like minded people, bring an item you are working on, or need assistance with, or participate in one of the regular workshops. Hope to see some of you at the next meeting in March 2011. Love Maxine

Read Nis's community empowering vision below. The Vision for the Pulseart Studio: “I feel that I am being called to make a space for art and community, here where I live. It’s my passion and dream. I’d like to invite you to share it with me. My home in Spearwood is no longer needed as a family space to bring up children. I want to make a different kind of home: for art, craft, local people. I want to share with you, and with our community, my sense of gratitude for life. I want to help others see the beauty around us. My passion is to create a place where people feel that they can belong. It will be a place to come together through arts, craft and music. My dream is that we sustain this place, and it sustains us. We can listen and talk to the trees and plants. We can value everything in nature that makes the world the wonder that it is. So, if you are inspired by my words, please join me. You can get involved in a small way, or a big way. You can join me in creating a space from and for the heart, in a society that is run so much from the head. I believe that we have all helped create the world around us. If there are things that don’t feel good to us, then it’s up to us to recreate something new.
And it’s time for me to give back to the community of teachers and friends that I have found here in W.A. Please help me create a space where everyone can use art to celebrate and enjoy the richness and beauty of life.” Blessings Nis

I grew up on a farm just west of Maya, Western Australia. Later my parents bought a small farm in Latham. Both are on the Northam-Mullewa Highway, known as the Wildflower Way, about 310km north-east of Perth and 46km east of Coorow, Latham is in country on the edge of the Murchison goldfields noted for its wildflowers and gemstones, although grain growing is the main commercial enterprise.
North and east of Latham it gets pretty sparse and barren, and just to the east of town is the extraordinarily-long “Rabbit Proof” fence that runs north to south in WA in a valiant attempt to keep out vermin such as dingoes and rabbits. That fence, by the way, is longer than the Great Wall of China. Some wags suggest that it has had as much success in holding back the vermin as the Great Wall of China had in dissuading the Mongol hordes.
This is the area to head for between July and September if you want to see some of the best and most colourful wildflower displays in WA. A special favourite among the many species in this area (WA has something like 8000 different varieties) is the well known wreath flower, Leschenaultia macrantha. After primary school at Latham, I boarded in Karrinyup with relatives so that I could attend Scarborough Senior High School and later on lived in Perth city and went to Business College before returning home for a few years. I worked at the Coorow Shire Council Office, which is where I met my husband, Barney and a great mate, Peter. Just after we were married in 1980, Barney got a new position with Melville City Council and we moved back to Perth. I worked in Medical Records at Fremantle Hospital where I met my best friend, Irene. Barney had two daughters and in 1984 we had a son. We now have 6 Grandchildren and 1 Great-Grandchild. We moved to Bibra Lake in 1985 and have been here ever since. We love the lake, its reserve and its wildlife.

It is finished!! My "Bead Guild Feb 2011 Bead Challenge" entry I got the package of beads and threads home and poked them around for a few days before I finally had an idea of how to incorporate all the elements into a single item. The theme being summer - I decided to make a beach bag and use the items from the challenge to decorate the pockets. The bag itself is turquoise linen lined with emerald green ripstop nylon. It has a large pocket on one side and a smaller one on the other. The straps are long enough to wear across the body like a satchel (to make it easier when carrying other items in your hands - or trying to keep the kids under control) The larger pocket has a garden scene with flowers and a butterfly. I have used the threads as stems and leaves on some of the flowers and in the centre of the large orange "hibiscus". The hibiscus uses the memory wire to keep its shape and be 3D. Above the other pocket, on the strapwork, I have wrapped the heart and flower beads onto the chain and added a "bronzed Aussie" face. The chain and findings are in both silver and gold and are secured to the bag with a turquoise satin ribbon. I used all the elements in the challenge package, plus added a few of my own items to complete this project.

LOVE MAXINE ♥ ♥ ♥ Wishing you and your families a wonderful and safe Christmas and a joyous and successful New Year. I have finished the Christmas shopping (except for Bud, the dog's gift) and have all but one gift wrapped. That one should arrive in the next couple of days. (Fingers crossed). While out on my usual "Girlfriend" day with Irene I bought a couple of books to add to the collection that I plan to read over the next couple of months. Have 3 going at the present (when I have a free moment). Also have the Bead Guild bead challenge to complete. I have managed to do quite a bit of this design so far and use most of the types of threads / beads that we were given, though a couple have been more challenging that others and I have had to think outside the "box". But that is exactly why I like entering competitions and participating in challenges, because you are given the opportunity to use items / methods that you wouldn't generally use. (Sometimes not as successfully as others - but then othertimes you are pleasantly surprised with the outcome.) Whatever you have planned over the Festive season, or on your holidays, I hope you have fun, and loved ones to share it with. With Love & Best Wishes Maxine xxx

This afternoon was the last meeting of the Bead Guild for 2010. The next meeting will be in Feb 5th, 2011. We all took a plate to share and members who had extra items that they no longer needed etc, had a bit of a jumble sale. I wasn't going to buy (I always tell myself that I have enough things), but when I got there, Leslie had some lovely little white centred, clear size 15 seedbeads and a chain of lovely links - so I just had to get them. The seedbeads, I have been working something out in my head for a while so will use them shortly, but the chain will be added to all the others, just waiting for the right inspiration...... I was lucky enough to also be the winner of the annual "Bead Jar" give-away and have come home with some great loot. I have been sorting through them and already got some great ideas for some of them. Some are not beads that I would usually purchase, so that will make me think outside the box. We'll see what develops with those. This picture shows some of the beads I have sorted so far. The leaves in the foreground are interesting and have two threading tubes down the back of each one. Over the Christmas break the Guild Members have a "Challenge" to complete. This year's title is 'Summer' and from the beads below members can make anything they wish. They can use as much or as little as they like from the kit, and add more from their own stash, but they will earn points for each bead/item used from the kit. When telling us the outlines of the challenge, Di did say that she could be evil, and on seeing the amount of fibre and the colour combinations - I am apt to believe her. Still, challenges and competitions are a great way of getting the creative juices flowing. I will keep you posted on how I am going with this..... The kit contains, memory wire, chain, seedbeads, lampworked beads, bugles, crackle beads, pearls, flower beads and 5 different forms of fibre. Everyone participating in this challenge received the same items, in the same colours, but from past challenges there will be an extremely wide variety of finished items shown in February. Remember the Bead Guild is open to all beaders and new members are always welcome. Come for a cuppa and have a chat with like minded people, bring an item you are working on, or need assistance with, or participate in one of the regular workshops. Hope to see some of you at the next meeting in Feb 2011. Love Maxine

On Thursday, Bud, our lovely little doggy companion turned 13 years old. He must have either been feeling his age or just thought that he deserved a sleep-in as he was still snuggled up when I left to meet a girlfriend at about 10.30am. His sight and hearing are both diminishing and he is on medication for arthritis (especially in his back knees as he had both his anterior cruciate ligaments replaced when he was much younger - an old football injury??) but he is still as loving as ever. We do have to watch him with the children now though as he does snap if he gets hurt - which is a shame - he does spend some time in the laundry or outside when visitors with younger children are here - just to be safe. His favourite pastime is sitting on my foot, either under one of the desks (computer or beading) or on the ottoman in the lounge having his back rubbed. In this picture he is checking out the renovations in the spare/grandchildrens room. Barney was putting a new floating floor down and he replaced the doors throughout the house. Always under Bud's watchful eye..... For his birthday dinner he got a couple of chicken bones which he seemed to thoroughly enjoy. Good thing he doesn’t connect them with the chickens roaming around the back yard - then we would be in trouble. He is still only a small dog (part Chihuahua and part miniature Fox Terrier), but he is much bigger than the puppy we brought home from Queensland many years ago. One of Justin's sisters gave Bud to him as a Christmas gift and we had to bring him back to WA on the plane. He was so tiny he could fit in Barney's shirt pocket, but he had to go in a cage in the cargo area. When we went to collect him, they joked that they were sorry, but he must have got wet and shrunk. Our previous dog, Tiny, a most beautiful Labrador Border Collie cross had a stroke when he was 13yo and we had to have him put to sleep. It was a very sad time – it was awful losing such a wonderful friend. I am not looking forward to when Bud goes to the “big kennel in the sky”. He was very sick about 18 months ago and I thought we may have to put him to sleep, but then he picked up, so we have been lucky to get the extra time with him. When I told Nikkita (nearly 4yo Granddaughter) that it had been Bud’s birthday, she wanted to know if he had some dog friends over for a party. Don’t children (and pets) just have the best view on things? This is Bud and Nikkita a couple of years ago. She had put a chip in the space under the seat of her ride-on, and Bud followed her for ages waiting for the opportunity to get it. Love to you all and hope your family and friends (People or Pets) or all well. Maxine

Yesterday some of the other students and I, caught up with Alysea for lunch and she brought us up to date with what had happened at the Melbourne Aura Soma conference and things are in the future pipeline. It was lovely catching up with her (she is such a wonderful and generous person) and meeting the other students. They were all more recent students than me, and some of them are doing wonderful things in their practitioner fields or private lives. It is so wonderful to see how colour (or lack of) comes into play in all parts of the world and effects every aspect of our hue-man lives. For some fun check out this page on the Aura Soma site Wishing you all Love, Light and Laughter, Maxine :o)

The Fundraiser Cocktail party was a great (although very hot) night. They raised enough money to build 3 buildings that will each house about 10 people. That's 30 people who will have a roof over their heads and a home on stilts to protect them from the elements. These wonderful West Aussie ladies are hoping to raise funds to build 35 of these homes in the new year to aid approx 350 of some of the poorest people in Asia. "Tabitha's aim is to reach out to the despairing in their communities and help them to address their own needs in a holistic and sustainable way. Community development is achieved by encouraging personal savings, providing employment and income by teaching and selling Cambodian handcrafted items, and house-building by volunteers for families who cannot afford a home. Thereby transforming lives to fruitfulness with dignity!" If you wish to donate to this cause, or help out with their activities, please follow the Tabitha Foundation link. The necklace I donated has gone to a good home. I personally know the lucky recipient which is great. I know she'll get many years of enjoyment out of it.

I have finally taken some pictures of the pieces I made using buttons found a couple of years ago in a Retro Shop. I've had them in my beading room just waiting for the right project. I hope you enjoy these designs. The "Jone" Bracelet is made from 5 buttons of the same size and style, but have slight variations in the colours. The buttons are linked with large jumprings through each button hole and these are joined by a pair of smaller jumprings forming a simple form of chainmaille. The hammered toggle clasp makes a great focal point. The "Jayna" Earring and Necklace set is also made of the the same simple chainmaille jumpring links, but with the addition of fine gold plated chain to join the links and form the necklace. 10mm and 4mm round jumprings join the buttons to the cascading chain in both the necklace and the earrings of this set. The Retro buttons are a combination of Pale Kakhi, Cream and Grey and the gold-plated chain adds warmth to the design. A lobster clasp completed the design. 17 unique approx 15mm round Retro buttons in a combination of Opaque charcoal grey and pale cream with swirls of translucent tones are woven with Opaque Alabaster Honeydew Delica seedbeads and Czech fire-polished 4mm faceted round glass crystal beads in a beautiful Alexandrite Twilight to form the centre of the "Galina" Necklace design. The necklace is finished with 52 more of these amazing colour changing Alexandrite Twilight beads and the clasp is another of these wonderful buttons. The "Brittani" Earrings (although not buttons themself) are a great match to the "Galina" Necklace. Featuring a translucent taupe color, these Czech round fire-polished beads are faceted for brilliance and coated in an iridescent finish to reflect light in golden-rainbow colors depending on the light, flash beige, gray, rainbow, peach and more. Very subtle but very striking The "Felicity" Necklace is made of small, medium and larger sized buttons are threaded onto black cotton cord in a repeated pattern to form this beautifully balanced choker. Another button forms the clasp and the design can be worn either as an approx 35.5cm collar or 40.5cm choker. Buttons are a unique combination of Opaque charcoal grey and pale cream with swirls of translucent tones.
